Facing Forward Toward the Future
Improving my communication skills has increased opportunities for me and I look forward to my next adventure.
The past week was quite impactful due to a powerful group where I sorted through certain beliefs which held me back, and discovered new paths forward. The Confident Speaking Space which I have attended faithfully for the last few months was another opportunity to grow and improve. I’ve grown an incredible amount in my public speaking and communication skills, which I know helps me during job interviews because my last couple of interviews, instead of just being good “on paper”, my interview skills are much stronger. I know that these skills will transfer over when I start working in a professional capacity again.
I spent the entire Confident Speaker Space drinking iced coffee at Starbucks where I get most of my deep thinking done. Some combination about everyone on their laptops working on their own project and caffeine always sparks my creativity. I once heard that, when coffee shops first became popular hundreds of years ago, human society and creativity flourished because people began spending more time in coffee shops than in taverns.
Although I’ve been faithfully going to the gym all of 2023, I did box squats today for the first time in a long time. My legs were hurting so I love that the sports and wellness have a hot tub and steam sauna. I might start doing Turkish get ups again, one of my favorite exercises from when I played rugby. A company wants me to interview about a job opportunity that using drones and LiDAR—essentially what I did at GVC as Mine Surveyor/Engineer. I forget how powerful LinkedIn can be until I re engage with the website and get multiple job interviews in a short period of time.
Last night I had a dream where I was working a warehouse job which looked similar to a Home Depot, and myself and a co worker were sitting on office chairs talking. The boss told me we had to make a delivery so I get into a white box van with her. As we get near the delivery, after driving through small dusty roads, there’s some kind of inspection station so she wanted to throw away the trash that we had in the van. We turn around and stop at a small roadside restaurant, it had white walls and rustic like in the coastal towns of Greece.
I go to the bathroom, which is a large open air room with no ceiling and the deep blue ocean comes half-way into the room and meets the beach inside of the bathroom. I look through a large window that’s open with two large barn doors facing outward, overlooking the ocean, and across a large bay is a steep mountain covered completely with large, lush green trees except for one area where they are digging into the side of the mountain. Where they are digging off in the distance, the scar in the side of the mountain is completely white like gypsum. Just outside the window a couple of people are riding chunks of this white rock, and moving around the water swiftly like they are riding jet skis.
I don’t know exactly what this dream means but I think it’s a good sign for the future.
Interesting point about the coffee shops. Sounds reasonable to me!
